Description
The laboratory of Dr. Jonathan Coloff in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Illinois Chicago has an immediate opening for a Research Scientist to direct the investigation of lipid metabolism in breast cancer.
Successful candidates will be required to formulate and publish original research in peer-reviewed publications, along with assisting in grant writing and progress reports to funding agencies. Research will focus on mechanisms of lipid uptake from the extracellular environment and how this interacts with endocrine therapy resistance in ER+ breast cancer cells.
Job Responsibilities
• Use proper scientific methods for publication and participate in scientific symposia.
• Analyze data and information, evaluate and report findings to Senior Research Faculty and other involved research staff.
• Author and coauthor articles for publication and participate in scientific hypotheses development and implementation.
• Develop and maintain research records, grant information, research notes, and resource utilization.
• Identify and coordinate working relationships with peers and other appropriate University personnel to achieve defined goals and objectives.
• Train fellows and students in techniques related to lipid metabolism and cell biology.
• Plan, assign and review work of staff to ensure that group objectives are met. Hire, train, develop and manage staff to ensure that a qualified staff exists to meet group objectives.
Minimum Qualifications
PhD in Biological Sciences or related topic required.
A minimum of five years’ experience in lipid metabolism techniques required.
Knowledge of lipid identification by mass spectrometry, mouse husbandry and genetic manipulation, organoid tissue culture growth and imaging, and statistics and statistical program usage.

Salary and Benefits
The budgeted salary range for the position is $60,000 to $75,000.
