Dept of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada
Description
Dr. Philipp Lange, Canada Research Chair in Translational Proteomics of Pediatric Malignancies at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, Canada, is seeking
• MSc level data analyst / bioinformatician, full time or part time
• PhD level bioinformatics staff scientist / research associate, part time
We are a team of computational and experimental scientists interested in post-translational protein modifications in pediatric cancers. We study protein dynamics during cancer progression and treatment response. Our goal is to develop new diagnostic & therapeutic approaches to detect and treat children suffering from cancer earlier, better and with reduced impact on their life. To move towards this goal, we specialize in quantitative mass spectrometry based proteomics, cell models and computational biology. We recently launched a precision medicine initiative (BRAVE) at BC Children’s Hospital, where we integrate proteomics and targeted NextGen sequencing with functional cell culture studies and patient derived xenograft mouse models.
The successful candidates will have the opportunity to contribute to diverse research projects including local and national personalized medicine initiatives. Key duties may include:
• statistical analysis and visualization of quantitative protein expression data
• development of data analysis pipelines
• development of advanced analysis algorithms for mass spectrometric data
• development of database systems and web applications
• interpretation, visualization and modeling of cell signaling pathway modulation
• support / training of wet lab scientists
• depending on the candidate’s expertise and motivation the positions bring opportunities to develop an independent research project and take on leadership in local and national initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in statistical analysis and visualization of biological data and excel in at least one programming language (preferably R and python). Prior expertise in machine learning, analysis of mass spectrometry data, (targeted) NextGen sequencing data, and multi-level integration of proteomics, genomics and phenome data are considered important assets.
All applicants should be fluent in written and spoken English and have exceptional analytical skills.
Located at the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute (BCCHRI), the leading pediatric research center in Western Canada, you will be embedded in the highly innovative and interdisciplinary research environment spanning BC Children’s Hospital, UBC and the BC Cancer Research Centre. BCCHRI is home to a thriving community of health data analysts, statisticians, bioinformatics experts and computational biologists.
The positions will commence as soon as possible. They are one-year term appointments, with potential for annual renewal. To apply, please send a cover letter expressing your background, career goals and fit for the position as well as your CV and contacts for three references to [email protected]. The positions will remain open until filled.
