Biomineralisation in vertebrate and invertebrate systems, albeit structurally and organically distinct, have the capacity to bridge the phylogenetic gap allowing osteogenic integration between both. My research focuses on exploring the characteristics of invertebrate biomineralised tissues, specifically mollusc shells and how these can be translated or adapted in terms of biomaterial design and development for tissue engineering applications.
