About
Summary
I’m Michele Grassi, PhD student at Istituto Ricerca Pediatrica IRP - Padova.
My basic education is purely technical as i obteined my Higher school Diploma in Industrial Chemisty at I.T.I.S. (State Industrial Technical Institute).
I reached my bachelor degree in Biotechnology at Università degli studi di Urbino,I continued my studies obtaining the master degree in Medical Biotechnology at the Università di Bologna. I did an internship at Institut Jacques Monod (IJM) in Paris, thanks to the "Unipharma-Graduates Project" and Sapienza-Università di Roma. ".
Positions
Early Stage Researcher May 2015 - Nov 2015
Project Unipharma Graduate, Institut Jacque Monnod
I was involved in a basic research project within the "epigenetic regulation of genome organization" scientific team coordinated by Dr. Sandra Duharcourt. We confirmed the catalytic activity of the putative histon methyl-transferase Ezl1 using the model organism Paramecium.
Inter Student Jul 2010 - Sep 2010
Lab. analysis Hospital of Urbino - Serology
During this Intern i develop knowledge about serologiacal test and I mainly worked on detection of albumin and immunoglobulins serum level using HPLC.
Education
Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna 2012 - 2015
Field of study: Medical Biotechnology
Degree: Master Degree in Medical Biotechnology
To obtained my Master Degree I did an internship Masters' thesis at the Medical Genetics Lab. supervised by Dr.Kerry J. Rhoden. During this 11 months it was performed experimental thesis entitled "Functional characterization of Anoctamina1 in thyroid cells" which was defended on March 18, 2015; Score 105/110. The aim of my research was to study the function and expression of calcium-activated chloride channel Anoctamin 1 (ANO1), within normal and tumoral thyroid cells by live cell imaging, in order to assess both its physiological role in iodide homeostasis and its potential as a pharmacologic target for thyroid cancer therapy
University of Urbino "Carlo Bo" 2008 - 2012
Field of study: Biotechnology
Degree: Bachelor Degree in Biotechnology
Bachelor's thesis project entitled: "Molecular-Genetic diagnosis of Myotonic Dystrophy type 1 and 2 ( DM1 and DM2)" was defended on February 29, 2012; Score 108/110. I perform a semi-experimental thesis studying the Improvement in Molecular-Genetic diagnosis of Myotonic Dystrophy type 1 and 2 (DM1 and DM2) using Triple Repeat Primers PCR (TP-PCR) supervised by Dr. Emiliano Giardina.
I.T.I.S. "E.Mattei" of Urbino 2003 - 2008
Field of study: High school
Degree: Diploma in Industrial Chemistry
Diploma's thesis was defended on July 2008;Score 82/100. I developed skills and competence about acid-base and Redox titrations, solvent extraction, flame tests, cell-count (Burker method), water/wine/oil analysis. I followed laboratories of inorganic, organic, analytical chemistry and physics.
PERSONAL
Skills
Communication skills: Oral presentation of ongoing work and journal club at weekly lab meetings. Excellent integration capacity since i always followed football training indifferently from city in which I were. From "Avis Valfoglia" (cadet team) until with the "Rio Salso" (regional senior team); In Bologna I played for "Siepelunga-Bellaria" challenging for play-off; In Paris, I took part in the team of 12éme arrondissement "La Camillienne".
Organisational / managerial skills: Capacity to organize the work during the week: planning a knockedown RNAi-mediated and a lethality test, follow the mammalian cells growth cycle. I held the position of representative of the Institute of 1200 students during the 5th year; I managed to pay most of my studies as i always have summer jobs.
Job-related skills: I'm familiar with a variety of laboratory-based investigation techniques within biological and life science areas:
Quantitative and qualitative analysis: acid-base and Redox' titrations, flame tests, cell-count (Burker method), water/wine/oil analysis. Quantitave HPLC to look over Albumin, IgA, IgG and IgM serum level to evaluate patients' inflammatory state;
Cells cultivation and manipulation: good manuality with mammalian thyroid lines (HEK293, ARO, BCPAP, WRO, Hela, FRTL5 e B5), the bacterial ones (E.Coli TOP10 and HT115 strains) and competence about sexual phase and culture of the model organism Paramecium tetraurelia; Bacterial transformation, mammalian cells plasmid transfection by lipofectio and plasmid microinjection;
Cell and molecular biology techniques: comprehension of Western Blot full method (from protein extraction to quantification to immune-detection), DNA and RNA extraction and purification, ligation reaction, DNA digestion with restriction enzymes, electrophoresis runs (protein and nucleic acid ones), PCR, transgene productions; Imaging methods: considering that I focused my Master's degree thesis on [Iodide] detection in thyroid cells by using YFP by "Live cell imaging" (Rhoden, 2007; Losco, 2014); Knockdown genes using RNA interference; Informatics skills: .
Concerning my activities I acquired a discrete use of computer knowledge, including web articles research through PubMed and Genebank. Good knowledge of Microsoft Package (PowerPoint, Excell, Word), Autocad 2D, Microplate Manage. I used "SerialCloner 2-6-1" tools to manipulate sequencing data and "MetaFluor" tools to analyze fluorescence data. Basic knowledgefor Prism and Graf-Pad.
