Summary

Dr. Mohammed Alshawsh is currently working as a Professor at Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He obtained his PhD from Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya in 2012. After his one-year postdoc at University of Malaya, he joined Department of Pharmacology, University of Malaya in 2013. Since then he has been doing preclinical research in the area of microbiome, metabolic syndrome, cancer, drug discovery, and toxicology. His current research interests mainly focus on pharmacological investigations of flavonoids, polyphenols, probiotics and their role in the management of colorectal cancer, obesity, diabetes, and fatty liver diseases as well as investigating the underlying molecular mechanisms of actions and signalling pathways. Extensive experience in the area of microbiome, metagenomics, systematic review and meta-analysis, toxicology including acute, subacute, and chronic toxicity, genotoxicity, teratogenicity and postnatal developmental toxicity. Dr. Alshawsh is a scientist member of Faculty of Medicine-Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (FOM-IACUC)-University of Malaya. He serves as Associate Editor for the Journal "BMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies". He supervised 10 PhD and 3 Master students to completion; currently, he is supervising 8 PhD and 3 Master students. He has published over 70 papers in peer-reviewed journals with an h-index of 18 and has given over 25 invited and plenary lectures at international conferences as well as facilitated more than 25 national and international workshops. He has obtained several research grants, such as UMRG, BKS, PPP, PRGS and FRGS.
