Abstract

This prospective double-blind randomized controlled trial aimed to assess the benefits of PRP therapy in enhancing wound healing, reducing post-operative bleeding, and alleviating pain in patients undergoing tonsillectomy. By comparing the outcomes of tonsillectomy wounds treated with PRP versus saline.
The study included 30 patients undergoing tonsillectomy, who were randomly assigned to receive PRP injections on one side and saline injections on the other side at the wound base. Pain levels, wound healing characteristics, and surgical complications such as bleeding were assessed for 28 days post-surgery.
In this study, there were no cases of post-operative bleeding in the surgical wounds on both sides of all patients. The pain level of the side injected with PRP is statistically significantly lower than the control side from the first day to the 5th day after surgery, there is no statistically significant difference in the pain level between both groups after the 6th day after surgery. The side injected with PRP had significantly faster re-epithelialization on days 7 and 14 post-surgery.
This study demonstrates the potential benefits of using PRP in promoting wound healing and reducing pain after tonsillectomy. The findings indicate that PRP injections can be a safe and effective treatment option for patients undergoing tonsillectomy.
