Abstract

Radioligand therapy (RLT), particularly lutetium 177 [177Lu]Lu-prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA)-617 is an approved targeted treatment for metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer.
This article aims to equip oncology nurses with essential knowledge about and strategies for managing patients with prostate cancer undergoing [177Lu]Lu-PSMA-617 RLT.
RLT is associated with low-grade and self-limited toxicities, such as fatigue, xerostomia, and nausea. Reviewing the literature and real-world clinical experience, nurses can learn to support patients in the outpatient setting.
Nurses should focus on patient selection, management of preexisting conditions, and supportive care strategies to mitigate common side effects. Nurses should monitor blood counts, prostate-specific antigen levels, and renal function throughout treatment cycles. Patient education about post-therapy radiation safety and waste disposal ensures safe home environments.
