Abstract

The aim of the present study was to analyse retinol binding protein 4, and gelsolin among patients with hypothyroidism treated with levothyroxine. A case control, hospital based study was carried out. The patients of hypothyroidism (HT) were selected from Tikrit Teaching Hospital (Tikrit, Iraq). A total number of 110 participants were included in this study (40 control groups and 70 patients with hypothyroidism underwent levothyroxine treatment, for 3 months) were selected for the study. Blood sample withdrawn from control, hypothyroid patients before levothyroxine therapy, and hypothyroid after levothyroxine therapy. Results: The level RBP4 and gelsolin were significantly reduced in the patient group when compared with the control group. In post treatment with levothyroxine their levels were significantly increased as compared to the pretreatment. Levothyroxine marginally restored RBP4 and gelsolin level parallel to improved thyroid hormone levels.
