Abstract
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a common chronic disease of the gastrointestinal tract and is a problem in developed countries. In particular, clinicians are interested in the extraesophageal manifestations of this disease, and recently, dentists have been studying the erosion of hard dental tissues. This article provides a literature review of scientific papers published over the past 8 years that provide evidence-based experimental and clinical data on the most recent issues related to the prevention of hard dental tissue erosion in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease. The meta-analysis used the resources of the eLibrary search engines, the PubMed website, and the data from the disserCat dissertation abstracts. The purpose of the study was to comprehensively examine the prevention of erosive lesions of hard dental tissues in patients with GERD. It was important to consider this issue from a preventive perspective, as it is often overlooked.
