Abstract

Examination of personal, job-related, and organizational resources of professional and managerial staff in disability services when working with people with intellectual disabilities and challenging behavior. Online survey (n=279) on working conditions, experiences of aggression, stress, resources, and work-related sense of coherence; hierarchical multiple regression analysis to identify predictors of professionals' work-related sense of coherence. Work-related sense of coherence was more strongly associated with perceived resources, structural conditions, and job satisfaction than with adverse events (experienced verbal and physical aggression; psychological stress symptoms). Team cohesion and exchange, appreciation, and clear roles and structures were highlighted as key resources. Measures to promote team cohesion, reliable staffing, and an appreciative, clearly structured organizational culture are essential.
