Abstract
Depression is a major mental health disorder affecting millions of people. Although conventional treatments, such as antidepressants and psychotherapy, are effective, they have limitations, particularly in terms of adherence and side effects but also in terms of their environmental impact. Physical activity is emerging as a promising alternative, supported by scientific evidence demonstrating its positive impact on depressive symptoms as well as psychological and social benefits. Although research consistently shows a reduction in depressive symptoms through physical activity, its integration into clinical practice remains limited. Finding alternatives to medication is important in the face of shortages, but above all to transition to a more sustainable healthcare system.
