Abstract

Child maltreatment is a global pediatric healthcare problem of epidemic proportions. Child maltreatment negatively impacts short-and long-term physical, mental, and social health outcomes for child victims. It is imperative that PNPs possess an understanding of the consequences related to experiencing child maltreatment and implement evidence-based interventions to foster healing. This continuing education article will discuss the consequences of child maltreatment and suggest implications for PNP practice including anticipatory guidance, screening, and evidence-based interventions using a trauma-informed approach for child victims.
