Abstract

This article reviewed the relevant records of Choerospondiatis Fructus in historical literature on materia medica, medical books and prescriptions, and local chronicles, conducting comprehensive research from several aspects such as ancient name changes, origin descriptions, production area evolution, medicinal parts, and efficacy indications, in order to provide a theoretical basis for modern clinical application and development, and to provide ideas for future research on the value of Choerospondiatis Fructus in other applications. According to research, Choerospondiatis Fructus was mainly used in Tibetan and Mongolian medicine in ancient times, with Niang Xiao Xia and Ju Ri Hen Shao Sha as its official names. It gradually appeared in TCM literature during the Ming Dynasty, with Shan Zao as its official name. The original plant of Choerospondiatis Fructus in historical literature was Choerospondias axillaris(Roxb.) B. L. Burtt & A. W. Hill, which belonged to the family Anacardiaceae. Fruit was its main medicinal part, while the bark, stems, and roots were also used in areas of nations such as Yao, Miao, and Zhuang. The production areas of Choerospondiatis Fructus were concentrated in areas south of the Yangtze River basin and the Xizang area. Guangdong province and Fujian province were the main production areas of Choerospondiatis Fructus in ancient times, and Luoyu in Xizang was a high-quality production area. In addition to medicinal value, Choerospondiatis Fructus also has edible and daily application value, which is worth further development and utilization.
