Abstract

Hydrogen cyanide (HCN) is an emerging gasotransmitter and protic small molecule bioregulator. We report HCN release from a series of light-triggered, self-immolative cyanohydrin donors built on the 4,5-dimethoxy-o-nitrobenzyl (DMNB) platform. We demonstrate carbonate- and ether-ligated strategies for increasing release efficiency, expanding the chemical space for HCN release.
