Abstract

Craniometaphyseal dysplasia (CMD) is a rare disorder that causes hyperostosis of craniofacial and long bones. Radiographic findings can show narrowing of the foramen magnum due to bony overgrowth. Orthognathic surgery, orthodontics and implant placement in these patients have been rarely reported and can pose significant challenges due to bony sclerosis. We present a male patient with CMD with class III incisors on a skeletal III base, with obstructive and central sleep apnea. Our patient successfully underwent orthodontic treatment, a Le Fort 1 osteotomy with refashioning of the nasal passages, and subsequent implant placement at the age of 16 due to psychosocial pressures. The surgical results have remained stable at 5-year review.
