Abstract

To analyse the organisational and interpersonal factors that shape healthcare for racialised populations in Spain.
Qualitative study with a descriptive-interpretative design, based on in-depth interviews conducted between May and July 2025.
Interviews were carried out in several cities of the Basque Country and Catalonia.
Professionals with recognised expertise in healthcare for racialised populations, including healthcare professionals, third-sector organisations, institutional actors, and researchers.
Purposive sampling based on a pre-identified selection of profiles, subsequently expanded through snowball sampling until data saturation was reached. The data were analysed using thematic content analysis.
The lack of clear and accessible information, a healthcare system insufficiently adapted to sociocultural diversity, inadequate training of healthcare professionals, and practices of racial and cultural stereotyping with both clinical and non-clinical consequences emerged as key factors shaping healthcare provision for racialised people.
Improving healthcare for racialised people requires addressing organisational aspects of the healthcare system and the training of healthcare professionals in ways that promote socioculturally competent care and an equity-oriented approach to health.
