Abstract

Stereodivergent routes to complex fused and spirocyclic heterocycles have attracted considerable attention from the chemical community. Their use significantly enhances synthetic efficiency while enabling broad structural diversity. In recent years, multiple strategies for controlled synthesis have been developed, allowing access to a series of isomeric natural and natural product-like compounds from a common set of starting materials. Stereodivergent routes can build on advances in asymmetric synthesis and organocatalysis, as well as on novel transformations. This review provides an overview of stereodivergent strategies for the synthesis of spiroannulated oxindole derivatives (2012-2026) that allow access to distinct diastereomers in isolable form.
