Abstract
This study aimed to translate and culturally adapt the Activities Scale for Kids (ASK) into Turkish and to assess its reliability and validity in children with physical disabilities.
The original ASK was translated into Turkish following the World Health Organization's translation and cultural adaptation guidelines. Psychometric evaluation included internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha), test-retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient), and construct validity using Rasch analysis. Convergent and discriminant validity were examined using the Pediatric Outcomes Data Collection Instrument (PODCI), a validated measure of physical function and well-being in pediatric populations. A total of 312 children participated (156 with physical disabilities and 156 typically developing).
Internal consistency (α > 0.95) and test-retest reliability (ICC = 0.99 for ASK-Capability and ICC = 0.99 for ASK-Performance) for both the ASK-Capability and ASK-Performance forms was excellent. Rasch analysis supported a seven-domain structure for the Turkish ASK. Both forms showed good convergent validity with relevant PODCI domains, and discriminant validity was confirmed by significantly higher scores in typically developing children compared with children with disabilities (p < 0.001).
The Turkish version of the ASK is a reliable and valid tool for assessing activity performance and capability in children with physical disabilities.
