Abstract

It has become widely accepted that primary sampling is part of the measurement procedure. Consequently, the uncertainty of the resultant measurement value (i.e., Measurement Uncertainty, MU) should include the contribution arising from the sampling process (i.e., Uncertainty from Sampling, UfS). However, there is one form of sampling and compliance decision making called Acceptance Sampling (AS), that is used in some areas of trade, and which was developed long before the concept of MU. This Technical Brief aims to explain how MU in general, and UfS in particular, can be included in compliance decisions made using AS.
