Abstract

Protocols do not merely govern formal dress or diplomatic ceremony. More broadly, these strict guidelines shape our entire social reality and the systematic observation of nature. It can therefore be said that every aspect of our daily lives is literally 'clothed' in protocols. Medical protocols, in particular, offer scientific rigour and legal safeguards, but risk depersonalising care and perpetuating asymmetrical power dynamics. The current challenge is to use them in a dialogical manner, sharing uncertainties and decisions with the patient to ensure their genuine safety.
