Abstract
From the early debates of the 1940s-1970s on the nature of the genetic information carrier - opposing proteins and DNA - to the rise of "omics" approaches now widely used to explore the complexity of genomes and their expression, molecular biology has undergone profound developments and true technological revolutions. These advances have enabled an increasingly precise and comprehensive understanding of living systems, while also creating new challenges related to the development of bioinformatics tools capable of analyzing ever-growing volumes of data. By providing unprecedented access to the organization and functioning of biological systems, they also pave the way for numerous applications, particularly in medical research.
