Abstract
Women's health is a recognized global priority; however, gender disparities continue to impact equitable access to health care, including rehabilitation services. Various conditions disproportionately affecting women, such as cancer, neurological, and musculoskeletal disorders, significantly affect their functional abilities and quality of life. Despite evidence supporting the benefits of rehabilitation across these conditions, rehabilitation remains underutilized and inconsistently integrated into postacute care pathways. This article outlines the critical role of rehabilitation in enhancing functional recovery, reducing disability, and supporting psychosocial well-being among women. Drawing on the current literature, it synthesizes effective rehabilitation interventions and key global policies in key women-specific health conditions. The findings support that early and tailored multidisciplinary rehabilitation is essential to achieving optimal recovery, enhancing participation, and promoting independence throughout the lifespan. However, despite advances in medical and surgical management, rehabilitation in women's health programs and policy frameworks is not prioritized, resulting in fragmented service delivery and inequitable access. Addressing these gaps requires strong governance, implementation of gender-responsive health policies and care models, and capacity-building of the skilled workforce. Integrating rehabilitation into national and global women's health strategies is essential for advancing health equity, improving long-term outcomes, and upholding women's right to achieve optimal health and well-being.
