Avulsion fracture of the coracoid process at the coracoclavicular ligament attachment associated with distal clavicle fracture: A case report.

Abstract

Avulsion fractures of the coracoid process at the coracoclavicular ligament attachment are extremely rare and typically occur as part of a double disruption of the superior shoulder suspensory complex. No previous reports have included longitudinal imaging assessments or patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) for this fracture pattern. We describe a 59-year-old man with a distal clavicle fracture associated with an avulsion fracture at the coracoid base involving the conoid ligament. Surgical fixation was performed using a CW plate for the clavicle and a suture anchor for the coracoid fragment. Progressive healing was observed at 3 months, and complete union was achieved by 6 months. At 12 months, the patient demonstrated excellent functional recovery with full PROMs. This case suggests that anatomical reconstruction may be a reasonable treatment option.
