Abstract
Under the triple background of accelerating the development of new quality productive forces, achieving the "dual carbon" goal, and promoting the construction of a beautiful China, it is of vital importance to explore the impact of new quality productive forces on the synergistic effect of pollution reduction and carbon emission reduction. Based on the panel data of 30 provinces in China from 2013 to 2022, this study empirically examines the direct, heterogeneous, and nonlinear impacts of new quality productivity on the synergistic effect of pollution reduction and carbon emissions reduction by constructing two-way fixed effect models, quantile regression models, and threshold regression models. The results of the study show that: ① New quality productivity could significantly contribute to the synergistic effect of pollution reduction and carbon emissions reduction in our country. This conclusion remained valid after undergoing multiple robustness tests. ② Meanwhile, compared with the regions with a high degree of cooperation in pollution reduction and carbon emissions reduction, the new quality productivity had a stronger promoting effect on the regions with a low degree of cooperation in pollution reduction and carbon emissions reduction. ③ There was a threshold effect on the influence of new quality productivity on the synergistic effect of pollution reduction and carbon emissions reduction. When digital infrastructure crossed the threshold, the degree of marketization was between the first threshold and the second threshold, and the energy structure crossed the second threshold; the new quality productivity had the strongest promoting effect on the synergistic effect of pollution reduction and carbon emissions reduction. By clarifying the impact relationship of new quality productivity on the synergistic effect of pollution reduction and carbon emission reduction, this study provides policy references for promoting regional high-quality development in China from the perspective of new quality productivity.
