[Clinical application and efficacy analysis of posterior rectus sheath release technique in stoma reversal surgery].

Abstract

Objective: To investigate the safety and feasibility of the posterior rectus sheath release technique for abdominal wall closure in patients undergoing stoma reversal surgery. Methods: This was a descriptive case series study. Clinical data were collected from 40 patients who underwent enterostomy reversal with abdominal wall closure using the posterior rectus sheath release technique in the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery at The Eighth Affiliated Hospital, Southern Medical University (The First People's Hospital of Shunde, Foshan), between November 2019 and January 2023. Results: A total of 40 patients were included in this study. The interval to stoma reversal was 110.5 (42.0-740.0) days. Intraoperative blood loss was 20.0 (5.0-200.0) ml, and the operative time was 165.0 (95.0-350.0) minutes. The 24 h postoperative incision pain score was 2 (1-4). The overall incidence of short-term complications was 17.5% (7/40), including 2 cases of wound dehiscence, 3 cases of incisional exudate, and 2 cases of surgical site infection. The time to suture removal was 11.0 (9.0-17.0) days, and the postoperative hospital stay was 9.5 (6.0-37.0) days. The postoperative follow-up duration was 411.5 (340.0-879.0) days. At the last follow-up, 37 patients (92.5%) reported an incision pain score of 0, and 3 patients (7.5%) reported a score of 1. No incisional hernia occurred during the follow-up period. Conclusions: For patients undergoing enterostomy reversal, abdominal wall closure using the posterior rectus sheath release technique is safe and feasible.
