Abstract

Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a rare highly malignant skin tumor with a high recurrence rate. We report on the use of line-field confocal optical coherence tomography (LC-OCT) for the noninvasive visualization of a recurrent MCC in the scalp. The use of LC-OCT enabled preoperative assessment of the depth and extent of the lesion, which was confirmed histologically. This case report illustrates the potential of LC-OCT as a complement to dermatoscopy and for improving preoperative diagnostics in MCC.
