Abstract

A letter from the general practitioner and researcher Robert N. Braun to Heinz Schulze, dated December 28, 1964, offers insight into his early work. At its core is Braun's synopsis of 28 publications he had released up to that point. These were intended to be sent to physicians in Braunschweig, Germany to foster both understanding and interest in research into general practice.The correspondence provides an authentic perspective on Braun's extensive body of work. The cited publications mark the beginning of a scientific foundation for general practice as a medical discipline. They illustrate necessary stages and offer suggestions for further theoretical research in the field. To this end the papers were outlined into four thematic areas: A. The position of general practice within the broader field of medicine, B. A characterization of theoretical research in everyday practice in general, and C. concerning specific health conditions, finally D. Important steps for research in applied medicine. The letter is also a valuable resource for compiling a catalogue of Braun's works.
