New-onset diabetes mellitus after pancreatectomy: A scoping review.

Abstract

This scoping review investigated the incidence and risk factors of new-onset diabetes mellitus (NODM) after pancreatectomy. A systematic search of PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science (2014-2025) identified 14 relevant articles. Results showed NODM incidence of 25% at 1 year, 35% at 2 years, and 39% at 3 years postoperatively. Key risk factors included prediabetic conditions (n = 7), aberrant metabolic parameters (n = 6), age (n = 4), postoperative pancreatic volume (n = 4), and type of surgery (n = 3). As NODM incidence increases over time, targeted monitoring and management guidelines are essential to improve long-term patient outcomes following pancreatic surgery.
