Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming biological and biomedical research. While AI has been used for several decades, it has only relatively recently gained huge momentum in these fields. In microscopy, AI has been integrated into the entire imaging workflow, from experimental design to data dissemination. Modern microscopes produce higher volumes of ever more complex data, and the need for tools to handle experimental workflows and the data arising from them is taxing the capacity of classical methods. In this work, we discuss how AI has been implemented across imaging experiments and the advantages and challenges faced at each step.
