Abstract

PTSD treatment in Denmark is difficult, with many treatment-resistant patients and a high dropout rate from conventional treatments. This review describes a newer supplementary therapy, stellatum ganglion block (SGB), which may prove to have a good effect by; 1) reducing patients' hyperarousal symptoms such as flashbacks, palpitations and anxiety, and 2) improving patients' ability to process intrusive memories due to increased hippocampal activity, and 3) leading to better compliance with behavioral therapy such as trauma-focused psychotherapy or EMDR.
