Abstract

To describe a new clinical protocol for prosthetically guided implant placement with the assistance of a robotic system.
A patient presenting a single missing tooth was selected for robotic-assisted implant surgery. The participant underwent a preoperative CBCT scan and an intraoral scan. A virtual implant placement and drilling protocol was established prior to surgery. During the procedure, the robotic system executed the osteotomy and implant placement semi-autonomously under the supervision of the surgeon. The implant stability quotient (ISQ) was measured, and postoperative CBCT scans were acquired to assess deviations between the planned and actual implant positions.
The single implant was successfully placed without major complications. An implant stability of 80 ISQ was obtained. The platform, apex, depth, and angular deviations were 0.37 mm, 0.49 mm, 0.33 mm, and 1.33 degrees, respectively.
Correct values of stability and accuracy were obtained with the semi-autonomous robotic system. The findings of this study suggest the potential of the robotic system for accurate implant placement and provide preliminary evidence supporting its use in the dental office environment.
