Abstract

Iron, although present in trace amounts, is a crucial micronutrient in the human body. It plays a significant role in essential bodily functions such as oxygen transport and energy metabolism. For athletes, particularly those engaged in endurance activities with high oxygen demands, iron is an indispensable nutrient. Despite its importance, a notable number of athletes experience iron deficiency. Research has suggested a connection between exercise performance and iron regulation, leading to increased focus on how these two factors interact. The aim of this study was to investigate how various types of exercise affect the body's iron reserves, the specific iron needs associated with different forms of physical activity, and the prevalence of iron deficiency linked to chronic inflammation.
