Abstract

In the context of demographic trends, two geriatric syndromes that partially overlap but are conceptually distinct are becoming increasingly prevalent: multimorbidity and frailty. These two terms are often insufficiently distinguished from one another. However, they differ fundamentally in terms of their underlying concepts, pathophysiology, and clinical implications. A deeper understanding of these two entities is essential both for the individualized medical care of geriatric patients and for the prevention of functional decline in old age.
