Abstract
Cryoablation has become a widely adopted thermal ablation modality for the treatment of renal tumors. Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging offers several distinct advantages over computed tomography (CT) for procedural guidance, including superior lesion characterization, multiplanar imaging capability, enhanced soft-tissue contrast resolution, and improved visualization of intraparenchymal lesions. Moreover, MR imaging allows for more precise delineation and real-time monitoring of the ice ball during ablation, while eliminating ionizing radiation exposure. Despite the logistical challenges associated with MRI-guided cryoablation, ongoing advancements in MR technology and growing operator expertise have substantially improved its feasibility and clinical utility.
