Abstract

In June 2023, the Cook County Jail expanded opt-out gonorrhea and chlamydia testing to male detainees. In the 12 months before and after, testing among males increased from 7.2% to 23.5% of intakes, with cases rising threefold for both gonorrhea and chlamydia. Most infections were treated before release.
