Abstract

Deep neck infections in pediatric patients are increasingly frequent and may lead to severe complications due to nonspecific early symptoms. We report the case of a 12-month-old infant who developed a parapharyngeal abscess with mediastinal extension following accidental fish bone ingestion, requiring combined surgical and conservative management with favorable outcome. The primary aim of this article is to present a representative clinical case to describe clinical presentation, physical examination, diagnostic evaluation, treatment, clinical course, and follow-up of this condition. Additionally, this study reviews the available literature to compare different diagnostic and therapeutic approaches and contrast them with our clinical practice, providing practical guidance to support the management of similar cases in the future.
