Skull Base Reconstruction in Challenging Pediatric Patients.

Abstract

Skull base reconstruction is a challenging task following trauma or surgical resection in the pediatric population. The reason is the region's complexity and the need to restore both the anatomic integrity and the functional aspects of the cranial base. This brief clinical case series presents the management of pediatric patients with skull base defects. These surgeries were successfully reconstructed skull bases, using calvarial bone grafts in 2 patients and a titanium mesh in the third. All patients showed excellent postoperative recovery with no complications. Skull base defects can be effectively managed with calvarial bone grafts and titanium mesh, which offer an excellent balance of structural support and biological compatibility. These cases highlight the safety and efficacy of these 2 modalities in skull base reconstruction.
