Abstract

To conduct a narrative review about the impact that new technologies and artificial intelligence may have on healthcare delivery and humanization of care in pediatric intensive care units.
A retrospective narrative review on electronic health records, artificial intelligence, and intensive care was performed. Subsequently, a narrative discussion was developed addressing the challenges and difficulties associated with the implementation of these technologies, focused on three main domains: electronic health records and clinical information systems, artificial intelligence solutions in intensive care units, and ethical conflicts and liability issues.
Digital solutions exist that may help reduce professional burnout, such as transcription tools and automated electronic recording of physiological parameters. However, there are currently no validated predictive solutions based on artificial intelligence implemented in intensive care units. Collaboration among institutions is essential for the validation of clinical decision-support solutions.
