Abstract

Chronic periodontitis is a common dental disease that requires therapeutic approaches capable of ensuring antiseptic, regenerative, and bacteria-free outcomes without surgical intervention. To meet the growing demand for more stable treatment outcomes and a reduced risk of relapse, this study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the "periodontal pocket-sealing" method using the drug Alveogyl (Septodont Co., France) applied locally to sites affected by chronic periodontitis.
A total of 260 patients aged 15-84 years with chronic periodontitis were included in the study. Clinical parameters, including pain level, bleeding index, and periodontal pocket depth, were monitored over a 6-month treatment period at regular intervals. After completion of the initial treatment phase, patients were observed for an additional 3 years to assess the long-term stability of therapeutic outcomes.
Following the application of the "periodontal pocket-sealing" method, the bleeding index decreased significantly from 2.6 ± 0.7 to 0.4 ± 0.2. During the first 12 months, the mean periodontal pocket depth was reduced from 4.2 ± 0.9 mm to 2.7 ± 0.6 mm. Sustained remission without relapse was achieved in 84.2% of cases. Mild local irritation occurred in 11.2% of patients, and true relapses were recorded in only 4.6% of cases.
The use of the "periodontal pocket-sealing" method with Alveogyl demonstrated a long-term therapeutic effect lasting up to 36 months without adverse reactions. This nonsurgical approach effectively reduces inflammation and pocket depth, providing a stable remission in most patients.
The findings support the method's potential for widespread use in the treatment and prevention of chronic periodontitis. How to cite this article: Vartsaba L.
