Abstract
The aim of this systematic review was to search the literature to evaluate the effect of various minimally invasive treatments to relieve hypersensitivity in teeth affected by molar-incisor hypomineralisation (MIH).
An electronic search in the databases MEDLINE via PubMed, Cochrane Central, clinicaltrials.gov, SCOPUS and EMBASE was performed in September 2025. The PRISMA guidelines were followed.
Of 320 potential articles, seven were included in the systematic review. All were RCTs investigating hypersensitivity reduction measured after application of a remineralising agent or a minimally invasive restorative approach. The agents tested were fluoride toothpaste, hydroxyapatite toothpaste, casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate nano-complexes (CPP-ACP) paste, photobiomodulation (PBM), silver diamine fluoride (SDF), fissure sealants with or without SDF and reinforced glass ionomer filling materials.
All tested treatments gave reduced hypersensitivity at follow-up compared to baseline mainly in molars with MIH. However, the evidence is limited due to the few included studies having risk of bias resulting from lack of blinding, small samples and lack of information for previous daily hygiene habits.
