Abstract

To define and evaluate a novel surgical approach for upper nasal deviation: combined triple greenstick fracture and polydioxanone suture (PDS) fixation.
This retrospective preliminary observational study was conducted at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, between 2023 and 2024. Patients who underwent rhinoplasty for upper nasal deviation using the "combined triple greenstick fracture and PDS fixation" technique were included in the study. Patients were asked questions about their complaints before and 1 year after rhinoplasty. Nasal function and nasal appearance were evaluated by using the Standardized Cosmesis and Health Nasal Outcomes Survey (SCHNOS).
Forty patients who underwent rhinoplasty for upper nasal deviation using the surgical technique aforementioned were analyzed (F/M: 27/13, mean±SD age: 24.63±5.13). The Wilcoxon test was used to compare pre- and 1-year postoperative data. In the SCHNOS subscales (nasal function, nasal appearance, and total), significant decreases (improvements) were observed in the 1-year postoperative data compared with baseline data (P<0.001).
This study defines "combined triple greenstick fracture and PDS fixation" as a novel surgical technique for upper nasal deviation, and demonstrates its effectiveness in improving nasal function and appearance.
