Abstract
Over 18 portals have been described in the literature for arthroscopic access to the central and peripheral compartments of the hip. While basic hip arthroscopy procedures may only warrant 2 or 3 portals, accessory portals may facilitate improved access, facile instrumentation, safe anchor placement, and suture management for a variety of procedures ranging from basic cam resection and labral repair to more advanced complex procedures such as arthroscopic labral and capsular reconstruction. This article defines common accessory portals and deconvolutes historical nomenclature and further describes their respective anatomic considerations and utility to address pathology of the central and peripheral compartment.
