Abstract

Nanopesticides, as an innovation of traditional pesticides, have emerged as an effective strategy to improve pesticide utilization while mitigating environmental pollution. However, they also face potential ecological risks and unclear long-term safety. Pesticide delivery systems (PDS) have attracted attention due to their ability to enhance the efficacy of pesticides while reducing environmental pollution. Among various PDS, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) stand out owing to their tunable porous structures, high loading capacity, and versatile surface functionalization, enabling efficient pesticide encapsulation and stimuli-responsive release. This review focuses on the characteristics of MOFs and provides an in-depth discussion on the mechanisms, covering aspects such as high loading capacity and controlled release of pesticides, improved foliar adhesion, targeted delivery, and enhanced stability and bioavailability for precision agriculture. Our perspectives on the solution strategies for developing MOFs-loaded nanopesticides for environmental applications are elaborated, and new insights are provided into innovative technologies, further advancing sustainable agriculture.
