Pyloric stenosis following hydrochloric acid-based bathroom cleaner ingestion in a toddler.

Abstract

Accidental ingestion of corrosive household substances can lead to serious injuries in young children. While damage to the oesophagus is most common, injuries affecting the stomach, especially the pylorus, are rare and can be easily missed. We describe a toddler who developed persistent vomiting after swallowing a hydrochloric acid-based bathroom cleaner. Investigations revealed complete blockage at the gastric outlet due to scarring. She was successfully treated with surgery. This case highlights the importance of early recognition and timely intervention, especially when the child continues to vomit despite initial treatment.
