Strengthening Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services and Systems in Humanitarian Settings: The Potential of Implementation Science.

Abstract

Over half of the world's conflict-affected population is children. The majority of these children experience mental health difficulties, related to a complex picture of exposure to violence, daily stressors, and loss. Mental health and psychosocial support interventions to mitigate the impact of harm have a growing evidence-base for effectiveness, but with a limited impact on practice. Implementation science can help to address this gap, by identifying how to improve the accessibility, sustainability, and scale of existing evidence-based interventions. This can help us to better respond to the collective and contextual nature of stressors impacting families living through protracted humanitarian crises.
