Abstract
This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of video radiology reports (VRR) combined with traditional text reporting in lower extremity venous insufficiency, comparing patient and clinician perceptions. This prospective, descriptive study included 61 consecutive patients (43 women, 18 men; mean age: 43.1 years) undergoing Venous Doppler Ultrasonography. In addition to written reports, patients and clinicians received VRRs featuring audio-narrated dynamic ultrasound findings (e.g., reflux, diameter). Impact on communication, perceived diagnostic efficiency, and anxiety was measured using 5-point Likert scale questionnaires for physicians (16 items) and patients (19 items). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Clinicians gave a high aggreement score (Mean: 4.92 ± 0.28; Median: 5.0, IQR: 0.0) indicating that VRRs were perceived to accelerate diagnostic and treatment planning processes and simulated a face-to-face meeting with the radiologist. Among patients, 98.3% found VRRs helpful for comprehension, and 37.7% subjectively reported a perceived reduction in pre-examination anxiety. However, a significant discordance emerged regarding data transparency: clinicians strongly agreed that VRRs should be restricted to healthcare professionals (Mean: 4.93 ± 0.31; Median: 5.0, IQR: 0.0), whereas patients opposed this restriction (Mean: 2.80 ± 1.12; Median: 3.0, IQR: 2.0). Regarding future preferences, 77.0% of patients and 50.0% of clinicians favored a combined format (written + VRR). Multimedia video reporting is an innovative tool in dynamic ultrasound examinations that enhances case comprehension, facilitates asynchronous teleconsultation, and may contribute to alleviating patient anxiety. Balancing data confidentiality with workload optimization could establish VRRs as a standard in patient-centered healthcare.
