Noninvasive Subcutaneous Fat Reduction Using Cryolipolysis in a Chinese Population.

Abstract

Cryolipolysis is effective for body contouring and reducing subcutaneous fat. The aim of this study was to investigate the safety and efficacy of cryolipolysis performed with regular-sized (6.0-inch) and small-sized (4.5-inch) vacuum applicators for reducing subcutaneous fat in a Chinese population.
In this study, 24 participants underwent 46 cryolipolysis treatments. The participants received up to 2 cryolipolysis treatments with 6.0-inch and/or 4.5-inch length vacuum applicators and were followed up at 12-week postfinal treatment. Treatment efficacy was assessed through blinded physician review of clinical photographs, caliper and circumference measurements, and participant satisfaction questionnaires. Any procedure-related adverse effects were documented for safety evaluation.
In the abdominal area, caliper measurements at 12-week postfinal treatment were significantly lower than those at baseline. The mean reduction in caliper measurements at the abdomen and flank areas was -2.0 mm (p < .01) and -1.6 mm (p < .05), respectively. Meanwhile, the mean reduction in the overall abdominal circumference was -0.55 cm (p = .13). No adverse effects were recorded in the study.
Cryolipolysis with both 6.0-inch and 4.5-inch vacuum applicators can be safely used for fat reduction and body contouring in Chinese patients with minimal side effects. Caliper measurements significantly decreased at the flank and abdominal areas with treatment.
