Abstract

Anthracyclines have been a standard component of the curative treatment of breast cancer for decades. Due to the emergence of new anticancer drugs (taxanes, immunotherapy, antibody-drug conjugates) and potentially life-threatening and long-term side effects of anthracyclines, the range of indications for their use has narrowed in recent years and seems to be becoming clearer. The classification of breast cancers according to molecular subgroups and the ever-expanding clinical data allow the choice of applied treatments to be increasingly individualized, which has led to the decline of anthracyclines in most breast cancer subtypes. Our goal with our summary work is to facilitate everyday decisions regarding the use of anthracyclines by summarizing the available clinical evidence.
