Abstract
Gender Dysphoria in Adolescence: Conceptual, Diagnostic and Normative Tensions in Clinical Care Abstract: The clinical care of minors with gender dysphoria is the subject of ongoing professional debate and controversy. These controversies surround the uncertain evidence base regarding the efficacy and safety of body-modifying medical interventions for young people identifying as transgender as well as fundamental questions about the clinical conceptualization of gender-related distress in adolescence, appropriate diagnostic approaches, and the normative and ethical assumptions underlying clinical practice in this field. This article examines these key areas of tension in the current professional discourse to offer a nuanced conceptual orientation in this complex clinical field of care.
