Abstract

Strict adherence to established clinical guidelines is essential to minimize morbidity and mortality in the management of Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia (SAB).
We conducted a retrospective case series of 10 SAB patients with retrievable and complete clinical records at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Nigeria, from January 2024 to June 2025.
Only 3/10 (30%) underwent echocardiography, 1/10 (10%) had follow-up blood culture, while none of our patients received guideline-recommended duration of intravenous antibiotic therapy; 5/10 (50%) had methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.
Persistent deficiencies in SAB management uncover the need for improved diagnostics and antibiotic stewardship in our setting.
